Microsoft Office Alternatives

Well a lot of people have heard of Microsoft Office, but there are alternatives like OpenOffice, an IBM Lotus Symphony; just to name a few. I personally use OpenOffice when possible along with Zoho (like Google docs, a online office suite and the ability of to collaborate too). These are free and open source alternatives to Microsoft Office, in many cases just a simple registration is required. There are many advantages to using these alternative office suites, one is price, most of them are free and the other is size; installed most of them are much smaller then Microsoft Office. Another good thing about them most of the alternative suites is it can open, read and modify Microsoft Office files. But in any case you have the power of choice to use these suites, so give them a shot, you maybe pleasantly surprised.

New approach

Well I decided to take a new approach on this blog, this one holds on my personal journey in through technology. This is totally separate from the computer club blog, this is more of what I have done in technology. The point of this blog, is to basically give my soul opinions and what I have done in IT. So in other words, sit back and relax; an enjoy the ride with me.

Some background on me, I am a hardcore Linux and Unix users, for many moons. But I have used other OS's too, but I am still a strong believe in free and open source software. Although freedom of choice is a big thing to me, I think more people should take a look at open source software. Because I believe it gives a chance for people to participate in, in what I like to call “community software”. Now onto other things.

I am currently learning how to code better, I am wanting to make a application, that will make it easier to install scripts. An that will be cross platform and of course open source, an most importantly free to anyone that wants it and that can improve on it. I am going to write a large part of it in a language called python, but it will be a mash up of other languages too. If anyone would like to contribute idea's or help with the project please feel free to email or IM me. Till later and may you all journey well...
